The world’s most iconic music festival has come to an end for another year. With all of the biggest acts coming together for an extended weekend of music and celebration, the countdown begins ‘til next year’s Glastonbury.
If you feel like you’ve missed out on Glasto a bit this year, don’t worry. We’re gonna give you the rundown of all the major events and appearances from this year’s festival.
With the festival opening its doors on Wednesday, early arrivals had the chance to walk around the massive site and check out all the sights and experience as much of Glastonbury as possible.
Day 1 – Friday
As soon as Friday morning arrived, the acts and the festival goers were out in full force. With music coming from every corner of the site, the day was started right when The Vaccines kicked things off on the Other Stage. With the likes of The Wombats and Two Door Cinema Club keeping the upbeat vibes goin’, Nike-gal Jorja Smith gave us something different on the West Holts Stage with her down-tempo brand of R&B and soul. With everyone getting to grips with all the stage locations, they were ready for Glasto’s first headliner, adi’s own Stormzy on the Pyramid Stage…
Reppin’ the Union Jack on this chest and commanding the crowd with ease, Stormy delivered something real special. A performance that didn’t pull any punches, Stormzy brought out all the hits including his single ‘Vossi Bop’ and ‘Blinded By Your Grace Pt.1’, which he performed with Chris Martin of Coldplay. Reppin’ the UK, Stormzy also brought out Fredo and Dave for ‘Funky Friday’ to shine the spotlight on British music!
Day 2 – Saturday
Followin’ on from a MEGA opening day, there were iconic acts to be found all over the festival on Saturday. Lizzo took over the West Holts stage and showed everyone that she’s got the juice, before Wu-Tang Clan stepped up and delivered a setlist that dropped all the Wu-Tang classics!
If you wanted some indie edge, Hot Chip and Foals brought their guitar-driven style to the Park Stage in a big way, while The Chemical Brothers didn’t hold back on the Other Stage providin’ an electronic masterclass – while also dedicating their set to Keith Flint of The Prodigy.
Returning to the Pyramid Stage, Ellesse-babe Anne-Marie got everyone feelin’ nostalgic in her set, with the crowd singin’ along to her throwback hit ‘2002’. Liam Gallagher followed later in the day, delivering a set that was a mix of his solo tracks and, of course, Oasis. The Killers were Saturday’s headliners and they brought a packed performance that included ‘The Man’, ‘Somebody Told Me’ and ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’. Coming back onstage for an encore, The Killers did back-to-back tracks with the Pet Shops Boys before introducing Johnny Marr to the stage and diving straight in Smiths’ classic ‘This Charming Man’.
Day 3 – Sunday
The final day of the festival saw people trying to cram in as much music as possible wherever they could find it (not that it was hard to find). Puma’s Stefflon Don made a statement on the John Peel Stage before Mike Skinner of The Streets got things bouncin’! Billie Eilish gave us a powerhouse set on the Other Stage with the crowd singin’ along to every word and gettin’ everyone immersed in the moment.
Dave followed Billie and dropped all the bars from his debut album Psychodrama. During Dave’s set we saw one of the most memorable moments of the weekend, as 15-year-old Alex, reppin’ his PSG shirt, was picked from the crowd to help perform ‘Thiago Silva’. The pressure was ON, could Alex deliver? Not only did he deliver, he absolutely SMASHED it! Keepin’ pace with Dave throughout the track and bouncin’ all over the stage, it was an unforgettable Glasto moment.
Over on the Pyramid Stage, we were treated to some Kylie (Minogue, not Jenner) who played the festival for the first time ever! Naturally, she brought all her iconic tracks and had everyone spinning around! Miley Cyrus made her return to Glastonbury with classic Miley tracks like ‘Party In The USA’, along with the standout hits off her latest EP. The crowd really popped when her dad Billy Ray Cyrus and Lil Nas X appeared on stage for them all to perform ‘Old Town Road’ for the first time in the UK. The crowd could not have been louder!
With Vampire Weekend warming up the crowd with their upbeat indie-pop, Glastonbury was brought to an end by The Cure. Showing they’ve still got it, they went through their back catalogue to bring out all the essential tracks that gripped the crowd. Finishing their monster set with ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, it was the perfect way to sign off the festival.
