West Ham x JD
With plenty of action on the pitch, our West Ham crew arrived for kick-off early for an unforgettable day of football.
The Breakdown regular Cams (@culturecams) was our host for @jdfootball for the day, and he was alongside YouTube king Theo (@thogden), football content queen Alex (@alexbailess), trading card legend Luke (@lukesolvecollectibles) and the man who welcomed new signing Mohammed Kudus to the club, local rapper Guvna B (@guvnab)!
Arriving at the iconic London Stadium, the gang got exclusive access to some of the best in Premier League as they went pitch side to watch the teams warm up.
Not only that, two of West Ham’s legendary strikers Carlton Cole and Marlon Harewood linked up with the crew to chat all things West Ham and snap a few for the ‘gram. 📸
Before taking their seats for the game, they soaked up the pre-match atmosphere in the press room and the JD-inspired suite!
Kitted out with everything they needed for the game, the result didn’t go our way, but it was a matchday we won’t be forgetting anytime soon…
West Ham v Man City
While the iconic ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ rang out as the players made their way onto the pitch, the sense of an upset was being felt in the home faithful.
Starting the game just two points behind City, West Ham’s defence were called into action early, with goalkeeper Alphonse Areola making superb saves to keep things even.
It seemed as though fortunes favoured the Hammers when Erling Haaland’s back post shot from close range couldn’t find the target.
With a quiet spell in the game, West Ham pounced upon space behind the City defence as Vladimír Coufal picked out new boy James Ward Prowse, whose diving header beat Ederson to put the home side in front!
Just before the break, Haaland again couldn’t capitalise on a cross to the same position, this time making poor contact that allowed Nayef Aguerd to clear his attempt off the line.
Seconds after the restart, West Ham’s good work in the first half was quickly undone when the electric Jérémy Doku cut back inside the box to fire past Areola and draw things level.
With an hour gone, captain Kurt Zouma thought he’d put the Claret & Blue ahead again, only for Ederson’s wonder stop to deny his header finding the net.
Knowing they’d been let off the hook, the treble winners showed their ruthlessness when Bernardo Silva latched onto a scoop pass from Julian Álvarez to put City 2-1 ahead.
And after Haaland was denied once more by the excellent Areola, the Ballon d’Or favourite finally had his reward, finishing the tie off 3-1.
There’s plenty to come from David Moyes’ side this season. With another chance at silverware and European places up for grabs, we’re behind the Hammers every step of the way.
