Scotland have secured their place at Euro 2024 in Germany after a superb qualifying campaign!
Now, the boys in blue face a tricky group stage. Drawn in Group A, they’ll play tournament hosts Germany, as well as Switzerland and Hungary.
Here’s how they got there…
Germany’s Calling
After the disappointment of missing out on a place at the 2022 World Cup, Scotland came roaring back with a blistering start to their Euro qualifiers.
Five wins in their opening five games, beating Spain, Georgia, Norway and Cyprus twice, set them on course for a spot in Germany.
Celebrations were put on hold with a controversial defeat to Spain after Scott McTominay’s free kick was harshly ruled out by VAR. But Spain’s beating of Norway in the following game ensured safe passage into next summer’s finals.
McTominay was without doubt the stand-out man for Scotland. Top-scoring with seven goals, he’ll be looking to continue that form into next year’s tournament.
Onto The Finals
Scotland will be heading into their fourth appearance at the Euros brimming with confidence after a strong showing in the qualifiers.
They haven’t made it past the group stage in all three of their previous showings, and if they are to do it this year, they’ll need to navigate a tricky group.
First up, Germany. Scotland will play the opening game of the competition against three-time winners and hosts Germany on Friday, 14th June, in Munich.
Next, they’ll take on Switzerland in Cologne on Wednesday, 19th June, before finishing up the group in Stuttgart on Sunday, 23rd June, against Hungary.
All three games will present challenges for Steve Clarke and his team, but there’s growing belief that this is the year they can make history!
