The Anatomy Of Football Boots

Football boots. Making their debut back in 1526.

Over the years, football has evolved.

And so have the boots.

The likes of Nike, adidas and PUMA have taken things to the next level.

But what’s the difference? What football boots do you need?

Don’t sweat it. We’re gonna break things down.

Breaking down the boots

Most boots use real or synthetic leather on the upper.

It stretches, moulds to your foot and ultimately gives you better control of the ball.

There’s usually some tech in there as well. For example, on adidas Predator boots, the elite level version uses HybridTouch.

What does this mean though? Tech like HybridTouch is used to deliver closer, more accurate ball control.

Laces or laceless?

Both are good. With laceless football boots, they’re easy to slip on.

And for the laced boots, we don’t need to say much.

If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

Below, football boots have different outsoles depending on the playing surfaces.

Firm ground boots have shorter fixed studs (usually plastic or rubber).

When you’re playing on soft ground, you want boots with longer metal studs to dig in to wet and muddy conditions.

And for those 5-a-side games, you’re gonna want turf boots. The rubber studs are designed to keep you gripped on the pitch.

Levels

Needing a new pair? Not know what you’re looking for?

We’ve got you covered with all the best football boots.

Nike, adidas and PUMA all split their football boots into levels.

If you’re more of a casual player, go for the first tier of football boots.

These are ‘PLAY for PUMA football boots, and ‘Club’ in Nike and adidas.

If you want a bit more quality but still in budget, ‘MATCH (PUMA) ‘Academy’ (Nike) and ‘League’ (Nike) boots do just that.

Balling at a high level? Pro level boots are your go to. They deliver high-level performance for the top-level players.

And finally, the ones the pros wear. Elite (Nike & adidas) and ULTIMATE (PUMA).

It doesn’t get much better than this. They have best materials, tech and design.

That’s a wrap

You should now have a bit of a better understanding about football boots.

Now it’s time to hit the pitch.
