Dina Asher-SMASHED IT-Smith
All about the girl power and the name on everyone’s mind right now: Dina Asher-Smith decided it was her time to shine taking home gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. The 22-year-old smashed her previous result in the 200m sprint running a time of 21.78 seconds giving her the world-leading time ATM! ?
As if that time wasn’t enough she also secured the fastest time in the world for her 100m with a result of 10.85 seconds.
4…3…2…1…GOLD! ?
Relying on her team mates to set the pace ready for her to boss out the last 100m, Dina Asher-Smith watched from the last leg as the rest of the women’s 4x100m relay team brought some serious heat to the Berlin track. Asha Philip, Imani Lansiquot and Bianca Williams set Asher-Smith up in fourth position before a blitzing 100m final stretch secured their win.
With the gals clearing up in the 4x100m relay, the men decided they wanted in on the action and pulled out a win with the help of CJ Ujah, Zharnel Hughes, Adam Gemili and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. These guys steamed down the track determined not to lose out on that gold medal.
More, More, Muir
Leaving it right up until the last 900 metres before she made her move, Laura Muir picked up the pace leaving the rest of the field behind to take gold in the 1500m race. Late to let the cat out of the bag, qualified vet Muir decided to chill it out until the last 900 metres before blitzing her final lap.
Special Mention Sportsmanship Award
Win or lose, these championships are about showing off the best of the best from all the European countries and 800m champion Nataliya Pryshchepa took her gold moment when returning to the track to help Belgium’s Renee Eykens up after a fall during the qualifying heat. Pryshchepa went on to take the gold in the 800m final, which made the moment all the bit sweeter!
