Lucy’s Legacy

Born In Berwick-upon-Tweed in the North East of England, Lucy played at youth level for Sunderland and Blyth Town, before spending a year at North Carolina Tar Heels playing college football in the United States.

She returned to England and played for Sunderland and Everton, before joining local rivals Liverpool where she won two WSL titles.

She then moved to Manchester City, where she would win another WSL and an FA Cup, before joining Lyon in 2017, where she won nine trophies in three seasons, including two Champions Leagues.

In 2019, Lucy was runner-up in the Ballon d’Or and was named The Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2020. She then rejoined Manchester City and eventually moved to Barcelona in June 2022.

She represented Team GB at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and was an integral part of the Lionesses’ historic Euro 2022 victory.

Lucy’s won almost everything there is to win and has cemented herself as an all-time great of the game.

Ballin’ Abroad

Lucy starts off talking about her early days and her opportunity to go to the US for a year with the North Carolina Tar Heels.

She discusses her time studying and learning all about knee injuries during her degree, something that she had struggled with, but she wanted to know everything about it to keep herself at the very top.

Lucy chats about her time at Liverpool, Manchester City and Lyon, describing her time in France as the best three years of her career.

In terms off my career, it was the one thing I felt was missing and I could never be complete without international success. I’ve done things for club, but I’ve said I would trade everything to win something for England

Lucy recognises just what a huge moment that Euro 2022 win was, not just for the team, but for growing the women’s game in the country.

She talks about the impact that winning the trophy had and even the difference it’s made on the women’s game.

On her time at Barcelona, she talks about “the Barcelona way” and how the blueprint for success runs through the club from top to bottom.
