JD x BBC Children in Need

We’ve teamed up with BBC Children in Need to continue doing one of the things we do best. Supporting young people up and down the country.

Helping to protect the places that speak the language of youth. That’s what we’re about. And through our partnership with BBC Children in Need, we’ll be supporting up to 10,000 young people by funding 50 youth projects and around 90 youth workers across the UK.

Our main mission this time? Tackling youth unemployment.

With BBC CiN, we’ll provide practical training and employment opportunities for those that need it most. We’ve created an online work experience programme, so that young people can develop essential skills across Retail, Buying, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Digital.

To further enhance employability skills, we’ll host CV and interview workshops, ‘Meet the Team’ sessions, and deliver recruitment support when it comes to career opportunities and job interviews.

Paul Orange, People, Managing Director of JD EMEA, said: “Too many young people face barriers when taking their first steps into work, whether that’s a lack of experience, confidence or access to opportunities. As a major employer of young people, we believe we have an important role to play in helping to change that.

“Our partnership with BBC Children in Need is part of a much broader commitment to tackling youth unemployment. By combining support for youth services with practical experience, skills development and greater exposure to the world of work, we want to help more young people see a pathway into work and take that next step towards a career.”

Claire Hoyle, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need, said: “We are incredibly proud to be partnering with JD Sports to support youth projects and youth workers in communities across the UK. Giving young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to sits at the heart of everything we do, and this partnership will help make that a reality for thousands more young people.

“Young people are facing increasing challenges and we know how vital it is that they have access to trusted adults, safe spaces and opportunities for the future. By investing in both youth work and pathways into employment, we can help young people build brighter futures.”

We know how important it is for young people to have somewhere they can see their mates, talk about anything they might be struggling with, and wind down in a space that’s just for them.

Beyond physical spaces like youth clubs, we’ve launched The Youth Club Dictionary with BBC Children in Need. We wanted to highlight how youth workers can really speak the language of young people, and how each and every youth club closure cuts off a vital line of communication.

The campaign’s even backed by MOBO-award winning rapper, DC3, who’s released a new music video ‘My Home’ directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Andrea Arnold. Filmed in a youth club and inspired by the language from the dictionary, DC3 brings our message to life with the new video.

We’re proud of this one. And we’re only going bigger.
