Bringin’ Us Joy This Week…

Whether you’re still WFH or becoming a pro at social distancing, life has never been so different right now.

In the last few weeks, we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of people come together up and down the country, standing at their front doors and windows, balconies and terraces, to show their appreciation for NHS staff and keyworkers.

The clap is giving us a much-needed morale boost with communities uniting to say a BIG thank-you to our heroes for keeping us safe every day and spreading all round positive vibes!

The current situation is worrying but with community spirit at an all-time high, we’ve rounded up some of this week’s positive stories that we’re loving at JD. Hit below for a lil pick-me-up!

Goodie Bags Galore

In worrying times, there are people still doing amazing things! Meet mini-super hero Sophia-Rose Fry. This gal has hand delivered over 1K goodie bags packed full of her own toys to key workers and children in lock down. Coming up with the self-less deed back in March, Sophia-Rose’s goodie bags are made up of sensory toys, handmade key rings, sweet treats, and balloon animals.

It’s a Throwback

92-year-old Connie Diggle has been making scrub bags for NHS workers on her much loved vintage sewing machine. Gifted to her in ’47 and used to make her very own wedding dress, Connie’s sewing machine is helping to protect NHS workers during these times by stitching bags for workers to put used scrubs in ready to wash. Using her evenings while she is self-isolating, she’s already made 65!

Pushin’ Goals

Haroon Mota is goin’ the distance during Ramadan to raise and hit his target of £25K for charity. Orginally starting the task to support British Muslim charity Penny Appeal, which has formed an emergency response programme to help poorer countries and the UK deal with the coronavirus pandemic, Haroon has pledged to run HUGE 260km while fasting from sunrise to sunset!

Game Changer

A new artwork painted by Banksy during lockdown has cropped up and gone on display in Southampton General Hospital! The piece, called Game Changer, is now on view to staff and patients in a corridor at the hospital and is spreading the positive message of how much we appreciate our NHS super heroes.

Whist we may be apart from our friends and family RN, the nation feels more united that ever! We’re saying thanks to the NHS and keyworkers and are offering 20% off for our Blue Light Community.
