Born in 1945 in Iowa and raised in California, Don Ed Hardy developed a passion for tattoos as a young kid, practising drawing on his friends with coloured pens and pencils. Then, he graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute with a degree in printmaking.
After deciding to pursue his dream, Hardy was mentored by some of the most famous tattoo artists, perfecting his craft and exploring Japanese art styles. Fusing traditionalist American and Japanese design, Don Ed Hardy was recognised as the main influence in combining the two.
