You’ve seen those stripes on the streets. Now, get to know the brand behind them. Let’s talk all things ASICS.
ASICS is a Japanese-born brand, but its name comes from a Latin phrase. ASICS is an acronym, taking the first letter from “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano” – meaning “a sound mind in a sound body.”
And that’s what the brand is all about. Holding the ethos that movement and sport can build up your health and happiness. Positive vibes and that.
What started as a two-man team over 70 years ago has evolved into one of the biggest brands around. From the track to the streets, ASICS has your every step covered.

Back to basics
ASICS was officially founded in 1950 by Kihachiro Onitsuka in Kobe, Japan. The first ever shoe he designed was actually a basketball sneaker.
He was thinking of ways to improve his initial model when inspiration struck in the form of octopus salad. Comparing the shoe’s grip to the suction power of an octopus’ tentacle, and he updated his innovative suction cup technology.
Kihachiro Onitsuka used his own name in the brand’s earlier days – ASICS was known as ‘Onitsuka Co.’
It wasn’t until ‘77 that the ASICS name came into play. From the 80s to the early noughties, the team behind ASICS worked on perfecting its top-quality running trainers and game-changing GEL technology.
Now, ASICS trainers are as at home on the streets as they are on the treadmill. Its tech-rich, sports-inspired silhouettes are firm fan favourites.

Featured in your rotation
Over the last few years, ASICS has planted its roots in the street scene.
With the release of its GEL-NYC, GEL-KINETIC FLUENT, GEL-SEKIRAN and GT-2160 just to name a few, the brand’s been making big waves. Fine-tuning their tech and delivering that perfect balance of running DNA and city-based aesthetic.
Retro sneakers are on the rise. And ASICS’s offering takes first place.
Airy mesh uppers are layered with silver metallic layers for that classic runner look. GEL cushioning makes for that ultra-plush ride. All while looking fresh and feeling super lightweight on-foot.
Picked your pair? Let’s sort the fit. When you’re steppin out in ASICS, all eyes are on the creps.
Girls, get on the dad-trainer trend with dark denim in baggy cuts (jorts season incoming), or channel the sneakers’ Japanese heritage with cotton midi skirts and dresses.
For the lads, we like em with classic cargos to bring that street energy to a sports silhouette. They look fresh with woven shorts and track tops too for those low-key links.
Still, when you just wanna chill, a tracksuit always works.

How do ASICS trainers fit?
Generally, we’d say ASICS creps fit true to size.
The runners will know that sizing up half a size is a shout, if that’s your bag. But if you’re planning on keeping it low-key in your ASICS’s, you’re good to cop your regular size.
