Get To Know The North Face’s Nuptse

The North Face Nuptse puffer jacket is an icon for a reason. Rooted in retro outdoor wear that’s built to last, here’s everything you need to know about the coat of the season.

The North Face is well-known for its quality craftmanship and signature sports-meets-street style that’s always inspired by adventure.

One of its most iconic silhouettes is the Nuptse Jacket – The North Face’s OG puffer coat that’s been seen everywhere from your local city streets to IG influencers and A-listers. A staple piece to keep in rotation for AW23 and beyond, get the complete rundown of all things Nuptse right here.

Never Stop Exploring 🌍

The North Face was founded back in 1966, selling rock climbing and camping equipment. What started with humble beginnings as a small shop in San Fransisco, California, has now become a household name – whether that’s bricks and mortar or nylon and tent poles.

The brand has played an essential role in changing the meaning of ‘backpacking’ with the introduction of the Ruthsack in 1969 – one of the first ever internal frame packs – which made the outdoors way more accessible and revolutionised the hiking experience.

The North Face is powered by its ‘Never Stop Exploring’ mantra. Leading the way in crafting innovative products and fusing outdoor adventure with high-heat street silhouettes, The North Face knows we’re all on an expedition.

Need To Know: Nuptse ⛰️

Even this jacket’s name is rooted in The North Face’s adventure-chasing ethos. Tibetan for ‘west peak’, the Nuptse takes its name from a Nepali peak, based about a mile southwest from Mount Everest.

The North Face first launched its Nuptse jacket in 1992, bringing a revolutionary design with an intention to take climbers to the tallest peaks around the globe. It featured a fresh baffle construction that delivered maximum warmth with minimised down shifting, and it soon became a go-to layer for explorers all over the world.

Its boxy silhouette is enhanced by the iconic oversized baffle with a plush goose down fill, resulting in premium warmth without the bulk. The original ripstop shell still stays strong today, and has a light shiny effect and a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish for waterproof wear when the weather turns.

It has a hood that stows away into the collar to amp up the coverage when you need it, with a bungee-adjustable Shockcord through the hem to cinch the fit. When the weather’s unpredictable and you need to lose a layer, it packs up into the inside pocket, too.

The North Face Nuptse is a signature look every time, re-engineered for the streets so you can rep the look without actually having to climb a mountain.

Now a mainstay from the streetwear scene to hikers and adventurers, The North Face’s Nuptse jacket is a must-have layer for the Autumn/Winter seasons.

It’s been spotted on the backs of A-list celebs like Harry Styles and Kendall Jenner, proving that substance and style go hand in hand when it comes to the Nuptse. Whether it’s IG gals layering it over cargo skirts, or Gorpcore guys pairing it with outdoor-ready cargos, the iconic jacket makes a statement with every ‘fit.

Linking icons with icons, we decided to kit out some of the most well-known landmarks in a The North Face Nupste. It’s worn worldwide, and we wanted to show just how famous the Nuptse jacket is. London’s Big Ben and Paris’ Eiffel Tower were dressed in a TNF Nuptse jacket, for a global stunt that caught eyes all over.

How To Look After Your Nuptse Jacket 🧼

Even though The North Face’s gear is always built to last, no matter what the weather throws at you, you still need to know how to care for your Nuptse jacket.

If you want to get the most out of your puffer, looking after it properly goes a long way. With a down product, you need to take special care. Here’s what The North Face recommends:

Wash in warm water, using a down-specific liquid detergent. Wash on a gentle cycle with a low spin, with an extra rinse and spin if needed to remove as much soap and water as possible.

Hang your Nuptse to dry out naturally, or use a tumble dryer on a low setting over a longer space of time. You can add tennis balls or dryer balls to your tumble dryer to help to make sure the down fill doesn’t clump together.

If your Nuptse jacket won’t fit inside your washing machine or tumble dryer, it’s best to have it professionally cleaned

For some extra tips to ensure you’re taking the best care of your Nuptse, you should avoid lifting it out of the washing machine, and scoop it up from the bottom instead. Before washing your jacket, remember to close up all the zippers and Velcro fastenings to steer clear of any accidental damage.
