Just last week we jetted off to Barcelona for the latest instalment from House of Vans. Not heard of House of Vans before? This is where creativity and imagination lets loose. A place of inspiration where ‘Off the Wall’ lives.
Taking place from Wednesday 25th September until Saturday 28th, Vans promised 4 days of skateboarding, music, art and workshops! Hitting up Utopia 126, an old factory in Poblenou, we joined some of our fave influencers and headed to meet the Vans squad.
What Went Down?
Staying true to their roots, skate OGs Vans mashed up all things skateboarding, music, art and LOADS more for the ultimate event!
On the Board
Over the course of the four days, House of Vans ran open skate sessions on a custom built skate park. It kicked off with a skate jam session with Dogway Magazine – skateboarding and an exhibition rolled into one, while the latest issue of the mag launched. For those lookin’ to learn something new, they were encouraged to shape up their skills at the Skate Skool, ran by local independent school, Al Carrer.
Skateboarding making you hungry? House of Vans had it covered. With a host of Barcelona-based vendors, the event was packed out with insane food stalls; from a veggie deli to a fish and chips shop!
Off the Board
For those spending time off the board, Barca-local and old-school skater, Soren Manzoni was showcasing his collection of early ‘80s skateboards. At the same time, you could catch the Black Rainbows art show – packed with local vibes and a talk from skate icon, Tony Alva. Wanting to create something for yourself? On the Saturday, Ayma Boards took over for the ultimate Build a Board workshop. Designing, shaping, painting…the works.
When it came to music, Vans brought the heat. For night 1, new music took over with The Parrots, Los Nastys and Go Cactus taking to the stage. To mark the weekend, Friday night went OFF. DJ and producer Kaytranada had a headline slot, alongside rapper, Hard GZ who shut it down. And to finish? To close up on the Saturday, Nasty Mondays took over for the ultimate party – with DJ Soren Manzoni bringin’ the heat on decks.
Influencer Stylin’
Joining JD at the 4-day event were influencers, Jonny Wilson (@jonnywilson), Olivia Frost (@oliviabynature) and Robyn Poppy (@robynpoppy). Lacing up in nothin’ but Vans while checkin’ out House of Vans and exploring the sights of Barcleona, these guys brought all the inspo.
Jonny worked the neon trend in some black and green checkerboard Sk8-Hi’s, while Olivia clashed prints in the Era Platform. Not sticking to just one pair, Vans-babe Robyn was seen reppin the Authentic Platform in black, as well as the Era.
