Back from ’87 🏀
Throw it back to 1987 and PUMA dropped the first iteration of the Slipstream. It came as a successor to the SKY LX and was built for the courts. Offering performance, stability and next level cushioning, it was the ultimate basketball kick, but off-court it was making its way to the streets too.
The Slipstream made waves among sneaker enthusiasts and hip-hop dance crews, and the brand took note. In ’88 the Slipstream was available in a wider range of colourways, including signature lifestyle editions like ‘THE BEAST’ and the ‘SLIPSTREAM SNAKE’, which repped faux fur and snakeskin – designed specifically to be worn off court.
After over a decade out of the game, the Slipstream was reissued in 2002, then later in 2021. Today, the silhouette is a modern take on the archive icon.
Slippin’ Into Slipstreams
After making its mark at all the important moments in sneaker history, the Slipstream is back. Keeping the OG design lines and its basketball heritage, this low-profile kick has a premium leather upper and a cushioned midsole underfoot. Finished with the iconic PUMA Formstrip to the sidewalls.
