Nike All Conditions Gear, more commonly known as Nike ACG, has hit JD.
A sub-label of the Swoosh, the brand was officially born in 1989 after the first collection of Nike Hiking back in ’81.
So, with a drop of seasonal style for both men and women, we’re digging into the name behind the popular triangle logo.
What is Nike ACG?
The motto ‘Designed, tested, and made on Planet Earth. For outdoor use.’ speaks for itself. Inspired by the location and the conditions that come with it, the range is rooted in functional, tech-led gear, ready for exploring the landscape.
Built to take on the changing terrains and elements as you ascend the peaks, the first collection stood out as it was lighter than any other gear out there.
As the brand grew and performance-driven features bled into footwear, the market wanted to see bold colours and fresh materials, and Nike ACG shoes did just that.
Vibrant orange, green, pink, and yellow palettes helped the brand carve their own lane in outdoor wear, inviting a wider audience to get involved in activities in ‘the great outdoors’, such as mountain biking, climbing, kayaking, snowboarding, and hiking.
It wasn’t just the colours that sparked the cult following, GORE-TEX outer shells and RECCO technology laid the foundation to ultra-durable and lightweight ski clothing for the adventurers.
Nike ACG Today
From being discontinued in the mid ‘90s it wasn’t until 2014 that the brand was relaunched as NikeLab ACG.
Led by agency-turned-label ACRONYM head Errolson Hugh, this rebrand shifted its mountainside origins to the urban environment with a sports-utility focus and less playful colourways in his first collection.
A decade on and Nike ACG’s cult following is still going strong. The lines of streetwear and outdoor tech are blurring once again, and Nike ACG is at the heart of the movement.
The latest collection embraces its DNA and ‘90s styling with a range of unisex tees, tops, fleeces, jackets and trousers cut from high-end fabrics and stamped with the timeless ACG label that always seems ahead of its time.
How Does Nike ACG Fit?
With outdoor layering and modern street fashion in mind, the apparel runs oversized but with a structured design through carefully place seams and tapered trims. So if you’re into the baggy fit, go for your usual size but if you want a more classic feel, we’d recommend sizing down.
