The Road to Arizona

American Football is back!

After kicking off the 2022/23 season in September, there’s been action-packed games and plenty of highlight reels coming week in, week out.

With a place at the Super Bowl firmly in every side’s sights, here’s how the season’s gone so far, who are the favourites to go all the way, and how you can show your support.

The Season So Far

Last year’s winners, the LA Rams, started off on the wrong foot on the opening game of the season, losing 10-31 to the highly touted Buffalo Bills.

Two days later the Kansas City Chiefs made a bright start to their campaign, impressively beating the Arizona Cardinals 44-21 away from home.

Since then, both the Bills and Chiefs are top of the AFC East and West respectively, with the Bills conceding just 98 points in their first seven rounds.

The Baltimore Ravens sit atop of the AFC North, while another strong side in the Tennessee Titans head the AFC South.

In the National Football Conference, all eyes are on the NFC East as the Philadelphia Eagles remain the only unbeaten side in the whole competition. They’re closely followed by the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

Elsewhere, the highly competitive NFC West has the San Francisco 49ers, Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Cardinals split by just two wins.

Another strong side this year, the Minnesota Vikings look to be running away in the NFC North, with six wins from seven.

Lastly, the Atlanta Falcons lead the NFC South with a modest four wins from eight.

The Favourites

Pitched as the most well-rounded team in American Football this season, the Bills are the current frontrunners to take the Super Bowl LVII crown.

This statement is backed by a dual-threat quarterback in Josh Allen, along with a dynamic defence.

The Eagles have risen quickly to the top of the bookies’ favourites this year; having a reliable attack and defence has seen them beat the Vikings and Cowboys to date.

With superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have also been tipped to go all the way. Backed by a resolute defence, if they can get their attack going the way we’re used to seeing it, then there’s no stopping them.

Rep Your Colours

As the NFL headed across the Atlantic for the 2022 London Games, last month saw the Vikings edge out a 28-25 win over the New Orleans Saints at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. One week later, the Giants made a remarkable final quarter comeback to beat the Green Bay Packers at the same venue.

Last weekend, the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars took the packed-out Wembley Stadium by storm. The Broncos got their year back on track with a thrilling 21-17 win.
