West Ham United: 5 Key Players

Recently, the Hammers have found themselves in a rut. David Moyes is in hot water, and fans’ discontent coupled with rumours of Sam Allardyce’s return is turning up the temperature.

Their next fixtures will no doubt be tough and winning is essential – else it could reach boiling point. There have been five standout players for West Ham, could they be pivotal in cooling the heat?

1. Alphonse Areola

Starting at the back, despite having secured just four clean sheets, Alphonse Areola has been an important player for the Irons.

Not only has he been Moyes’ choice between the sticks, he’s also a popular pick for Fantasy Football Managers. With a starting price at 4.0m, over 35% of FF managers see him as a shrewd choice.

Testament to the French shot-stopper’s quality, he has featured for Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Initially on loan at Fulham, he’s adapted to life in the Premier League exceptionally well and become a mainstay for the London side.

2. Lucas Paquetá

Dazzling skills with dance moves to match, the Brazilian international has fast become a fan favourite since arriving from Lyon.

Assists and goals come naturally to this silky baller, so much so, he’s caught the attention of Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola.

He’s also struck up an eye-catching partnership with new signing, Mohammed Kudus, who has just returned from international duty. And with Paquetá out of contention, the forward’s reintroduction is a boon for West Ham.

3. Mohammed Kudus

If you’ve watched this man play, you wouldn’t believe this was his debut season in arguably the toughest league in Europe.

As we know, the Ghanian has enjoyed some lovely link-up play with Paquetá. But don’t be fooled into thinking he relies on others; the tricky winger can skin defenders and single-handedly find the net.

4. James Ward-Prowse

Another new recruit who’s integral to the midfield is set-piece specialist, James Ward-Prowse. Moving from relegated Southampton, it was clear his abilities were superior for the Championship.

Avid watchers of football know all about his delicious crosses and deadly freekicks, he’s a dream for aerial threats and a nightmare for keepers.

5. Jarrod Bowen

Almost talismanic, the forward is a constant threat. He possesses twinkle-toes, tenacity, and a terrific turn of pace.

Though he’s comfortable on the flank, he has operated in a more central role this season and has racked up a total of 11 goals. This is soon to be his best return for a campaign.

Victories are Vital

With pressure picking up, picking up points is paramount. Lucas Paquetá is currently absent, but the other four will need to be at their best if bubbles aren’t to be burst.
