adidas BOOST: What is BOOST Technology?

The Beginning of Boost

BOOST revolutionised the industry when adidas first unveiled the innovative technology in 2013, but what is BOOST? Since its inception in January 2015, the adidas Ultra Boost has continued to grow and become one of the most desirable trainers on the market.

Boost Models

Now onto the 4.0 silhouette, the Ultra Boost remains one of the most comfortable shoes available, with several models now available, such as the Ultra Boost Uncaged, Ultra Boost Clima, the NMD and collaborations with brands such as Parley, to create a trainer which incorporates recycled ocean plastic.

Boost Technology – An Overview

adidas teamed up with German chemical company BASF to design the midsole, the cushioning in the adidas Ultra Boost is made using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). A solid granular material that was blown up and reshaped to become thousands of miniscule energy capsules. This means that the midsole can hold and restore energy unlike any other sneaker available, giving incredible cushioning and allowing the midsole to return to its original shape.

Moving into Lifestyle

When the Ultra Boost was first released, its perception was very much as a fitness shoe, with the technology making it the perfect trainer for running, or the gym. Boost has managed to make an impact across a range of adidas silhouettes, being used in other popular adidas models such as the Yeezy Boost 350, i-5923 and the ever popular NMD, the comfort and technology of boost has seen the adidas Ultra Boost move away from being solely a fitness sneaker to an extremely popular lifestyle choice in more recent years, with a range of eye-catching colourways available to enhance its appeal.
