Up Close: Air More Uptempo 720 ‘University Red’

Nike’s loudest sneaker to date has been given the 720 treatment. Just when you thought the Air More Uptempo couldn’t grab any more attention, Nike just dropped the Air More Uptempo 720 in a University Red colourway.

Renowned as one of the most audacious silhouettes in history, the Air More Uptempo is going up a level. Nike designers are sitting the sneak on their BIGGEST Air unit created – taken straight from the Air Max 720.

The Design

Echoing the ’96 OG, the Air More Uptempo 720 reps the same design lines for a throwback look. The upper is built from a combination of premium leather, suede and mesh – with more mesh than the original to boost breathability. On the outer sidewalls, these trainers sport oversized ‘MAX’ branding in white, while the inner wall has ‘AIR’.

Combining a retro aesthetic with a futuristic edge, these sneakers are equipped with the sole unit of the Air Max 720 – Nike’s tallest Air bag to date. This visible cushioning cradles the outsole and is visible in 360 degrees! Measuring 38mm tall, this Air unit offers the biggest heel volume displacement Nike have made possible, making this their springiest sole yet.

Loud and proud, these sneakers are finished up with the iconic Swoosh logo to the forefoot, as well as a glossy, debossed Swoosh to the heel.

Shout Out to the Chicago Bulls

The Air More Uptempo 720 first dropped in a Triple Black colourway earlier this year and was first debuted during the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend. This time around, they’ve brought back another classic colourway; University Red. This silhouette takes inspiration from the ‘Hoop Pack’, which was first seen in 2015 on an Asia-exclusive style. The striking red and white combo pays homage to the Chicago Bulls of the ‘90s.
