The Story Behind the Sneak

First dropping three decades ago, Nike’s Air Max 90 is still at the top of its game all these years later! But where did it all start?…

As Nike entered the ’90s, the brand found itself driving sneaker culture through its running trainers. With Air technology firmly established and accepted, Tinker Hatfield decided that the follow up to the Air Max II would have a chunkier midsole, a sleeker design and an even bigger Air window. With a look that was performance-heavy and bold in its design, the Air Max 90 was born.

The unrestricted emphasis on performance and style gave birth to some of the most recognisable elements of the sneaker. The Air unit to the heel was emphasised, and the midsole made thicker for better cushioning and impact protection. This design gave the sneaker a chunkier look that made it stand out from all the other low-riding runners at the time.

As well as having a pumped-up look, the Air Max 90 had a higher cut, which gave more support for running. This design gave the silhouette a look that was caught in-between the look of a runner and a basketball sneaker – meaning versatile performance that’s evolved over time to be at home on the streets.

New-In 90’s

Revived and recrafted, the Air Max 90 is still making waves! Paying homage to its 30 years, Nike just dropped a range of bold new colourways, as well as bringin’ back a couple of OGs – triple white and triple black!

The latest sneakers keep Tinker Hatfield’s legendary design lines, and have been designed with a shape that’s closer to the original AM90. Check out the latest Air Max 90 trainers for men, women and kids on site now. ? ?
