All but two players of the squad were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park. Talk about home-grown talent.
Beating Zurich, Nantes, Vojvodina and Dukla Prague on their way to the final, Jock Stein’s Celtic were ready to face fierce opponents Internazionale, who had lifted the trophy two out of the previous three seasons.
In front of a strong 45,000 crowd at Estadio Nacional in Lisbon, it was a penalty from Sandro Mazzola that put the favourites in the ascendency.
Inter’s defensive wall was holding firm as Celtic took control of the match, notably helped by keeper Giuliano Sarti.
After the hour mark, Tommy Gemmell’s 25-yard strike levelled things up. And with just over five minutes to play, Stevie Chalmers diverted Bobby Murdoch’s long-range effort to nab the winner.
Heritage Hoops
The new kit stays true to the classic.
Green and white hoops run across the body and sleeves, with thick 3-Stripes going down the shoulders from the crew neckline.
To commemorate the anniversary, the adidas branding and Celtic badge come in gold. The original four-leaf clover switches to a 60th-anniversary edition with the text ’60° ANIVERSÁRIO’ nodding to the final’s location.
On the inside of the collar, a special LISBON LIONS 1966/67 badge pays homage to the nickname.
Contrasting the retro features, the brand’s CLIMACOOL technology brings modern comfort to the stands, while CLIMACOOL+ tech is added to the player’s kit for advancing cooling in high-pressure games.
