How To Style The New Balance 327

With its retro vintage aesthetic, people will assume the 327 has been locked away in New Balance’s archives for years, only just making waves in the streetwear game recently. They’d be wrong…

Crafted by Manchester-based designer Charlotte Lee, the New Balance 327 debuted in 2020 and proved an instant hit. Pairing together a minimal design with oversized branding, they’ve turned a casual, ‘70s style shoe into a rotation staple.

Landing at JD in men’s, women’s and kids’ sizing, we’re dropping you a dose of inspo on how to style them, and how to make them stand out as the season’s change. Keep it locked in below. 🔒

Old Meets New 👟

Based upon the brand’s running silhouettes of the ‘70s, the reworked style of the 327 layers together a lighter, more breathable mesh or nylon base with a soft yet durable suede, leather or synthetic overlay.

Underfoot, the flared, asymmetric midsole leaves behind any heavy duty cushioning you’d see on other models – such as the ABZORB or ENCAP technologies.

Despite this, the super-soft foam delivers total comfort with every stride; combine it with the studded rubber outsole that runs up the heel, they’re the perfect blend of streamlined and rugged design.

Signing off the shoe, the exaggerated ‘N’ logo is stitched to the middle of the outer wall for a bold finish, while the sporty NB logo is woven to the tongue.

Work It Your Way 🚶

The unique yet simplified design that the New Balance 327 offers makes them the perfect sneaker to both keep casual when kicking back and add to your street fashion when on the move.

For serotonin-filled days of blue skies and warmer weather, this versatility makes sure they’re your go-to summer sneakers.

From coffee runs to park hangouts, the minimalist style stands out with a baggy tee and cycle shorts for the gals, while the guys can add them to a graphic T-shirt and sweat shorts combo.

For dress-down days at the office or when you’ve switched that out of office on to explore a new city, the retro runner keeps it fresh with a cropped mom jean and ribbed tank top, as well as lightweight chinos and your fave polo shirt.

Movin’ from sunny days to frosty mornings, and the 327s look just as sleek with a cuffed jogger and pullover hoodie for that track warm-up aesthetic.

It’s not all about keepin’ cosy when the temp drops a notch or two; but when heading out on Christmas socials, weekend brunches and more, the 327 adds a pop of colour to the darker shades that winter brings.

Match up the utility-inspired outsole with cargo pants for a look that nods back to the Y2K era. Pair that with a roomy puffer coat and a staple crewneck sweatshirt and you’re good to go.

When adding the accessories, you’ve got plenty of options! The 327’s summertime palette calls for low-cut trainer socks to let the sneakers do the talking. But crisp white and pastel shades are the ones to complement your kicks. While in winter, blocked colours and varsity stripes on ribbed crew-length socks keep the retro-meets-modern vibe flowing through your ‘fit.
