Who’s Karl Kani?
AKA the Godfather of urban streetwear – Karl Kani is an American fashion designer and the founder of the brand.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Kani was inspired by hip hop and street culture, but couldn’t find ‘fits to represent his style. At 16, he decided to start making his own clothes – completely different looks that turned heads wherever he went. People took notice and it wasn’t long before he started taking orders, making street-ready apparel as a hobby in his spare time.
By the age of 21, Kani decided to take his hobby up a level. He fully committed to designing his own clothing range and moved to LA to purse his passion.
Made famous as the first brand to produce baggy jeans that fit close on the waist, Karl Kani made waves in the US, as well as internationally. Hip hop legends including Tupac, Biggie Smalls and Aaliyah all repped his gear…
