The London Marathon 2020

Taking place on Sunday October 4th, this year’s London Marathon is a marathon with a twist. With many sporting events still on hold, the London Marathon will, for the first time, be ran as a virtual race!

That’s right, everyone that had a place for the original April date is welcome to join in virtually to celebrate the London Marathon’s 40th year.

Ahead of Sunday’s race, we’ve got and virtual London Marathon runner, Tom Penn going LIVE over on @jdsports today at 1pm – don’t miss it!

What’s the Difference?!

Instead of the usual route in London, this year’s race invites runners to take on the marathon and run it their way; the most inclusive London Marathon ever. That means that up to 45,000 people from all over the UK, as well as across the world, will take on 26.2 miles, which can be walked, jogged or ran – all they have to do is complete the distance in less than 24 hours!

No set route means runners can be as creative as possible! There’ll be an official race app where runners can log their time and bring the virtual experience to life, earning their official Virgin Money London Marathon medal and New Balance Finisher T-shirt.

Elites in Action

Also taking place on Sunday, the top level marathoners will run the race in an enclosed, looped course in St James’ Park.

The likes of Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, Brigid Kosgei, Manuela Schär and David Weir will all race in a biosphere environment. Sir Mo Farah will also run as a pacemaker for British hopefuls attempting to qualify for the Tokyo, 2021 Olympic Games.

Feeling Inspired?

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, you’ve picked up running in lockdown or are feeling inspired and want to start now –the good news is, it’s never too late! You might not be able to take part in this year’s London Marathon, but there’s always next year? The public ballot for the next one will open on Sunday too, with the race taking place Sunday 3rd October 2021.

The best place to start is with new gear. Not only will it keep you cool, dry and comfy as you work on your miles, fresh running ‘fits can do a whole load for your motivation too! Shop the latest running essentials now.

Taking part this time? GOOD LUCK, you got this! ?
