Up Close with the Air Max 2090

On Air Max Day, Nike dropped their latest silhouette; the Air Max 2090. Rooted in heritage, this all-new sneak takes DNA from the Air Max 90 and propels it into the future.

Get up close with Nike’s latest trainer and find out how you can cop ‘em in full family sizing right here.

Air Max 2090

From 90 to 2090…

Back in 1990, Nike’s design legend Tinker Hatfield created the Air Max 90. Back then it was known as the Air Max III. The Air Max 1 had already changed the game when it came to cushioning, but the Air Max 90 focused on style AND performance – which kick-started what was to come from Nike’s Air Max series. Hatfield didn’t just design another trainer, he paved the way for a whole range of sneakers to come.

On its 30th anniversary Nike have not only revived and refreshed the iconic Air Max 90, but used the OG design lines to help create a whole new silhouette. It keeps the mudguard and cassette from the 90, but switches up the colour blocking from the original, playing with levels of opacity. They’re built with a streamlined textile upper, and rep translucent overlays for a future-forward look. When it comes to colourways, Nike have drawn inspo from the future of transportation, which pays homage to the first AM90 being inspired by Italian sports cars.

The Air unit has also had an upgrade. Not just a little bit bigger…but 200% bigger than on the Air Max 90. A bigger Air unit means maximum cushioning, aiming to offer all-day comfort. When it comes to the outsole, the Air Max 2090 has been created with flex grooves for added flexibility and an ultra-natural feel.

The 2090 is finished up with a cropped Swoosh logo and the same OG heel logo that can be seen in the 90.
