Our fave day of the year is finally here and 2019 marks Nike’s 5th year celebrating Air Max Day! Starting in 2014, Air Max Day has been a mega celebration of all things Air Max – taking place on March 26th each year. This date is massively important; after all, it’s the same date Nike changed the game back in 1987 with the release of the OG Air Max 1.
Over the past few years, Air Max Day has seen the release of new silhouettes, limited editions and some major events. 2017 saw the first ever VaporMax, while 2018 dropped Sean Wotherspoon’s iconic Air Max 97/1. However, in 2019 Nike are switching things up.

Give Fresh Air
Instead of releasing new heat, Nike are putting their focus on their latest initiative ‘Give Fresh Air’. Though ’87 marks the beginning of a revolution, they want to launch a new chapter this Air Max Day. ‘Give Fresh Air’ is all about getting sneakerheads together and supporting local organisations – igniting change!
The sneakers planned to be released today are said to be dropping in the upcoming months instead.
Though there might not be any new releases today – we’re gonna celebrate Air Max Day by taking a look at some of our top 5 highlights from the past year!
May 2018
Last May saw the Air Max 1 make its return to JD. When the AM1 first dropped in ’87, Nike Air tech wasn’t actually new, but it was the first sneaker to expose it – letting you see and feel Air cushioning! Created by Nike’s legendary designer Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max 1 has been iconic ever since, and you can still cop it at JD!
November 2018
Late last year, the Air Max 2015 came back! Even better? It’s exclusively available here at JD. Off the scene since 2015, they brought back the OG style with a breathable Flyknit upper and exposed Flywire cables for the ultimate, locked-in fit. With a speedy look, this runner is at much at home on the track as it is the streets.
December 2018
What better way to start the New Year than with an updated VaporMax silhouette? Following on from the VaporMax Flyknit 2.0, the Air VaporMax 2019 switches up the OG look with a refreshed style that lays it bare. While the 2.0’s came with Flyknit uppers for a breathable feel, the 2019 editions have a translucent TPU upper – following in the footsteps of the Zoom Fly SP and React Element 87. Freshening up our sneaker rotation just in time for 2019…
January 2019
After first releasing the Air Max Dia in super limited quantities late 2018, Nike finally gave us round two in January 2019. Designed by women, for women, these gal-exclusive sneakers brought a new elegance to Air. Sleek, streamlined and ultra-versatile, they’ve been repped by pop-babe Ella Eyre and continue dropping in dreamy colourways.
March 2019
Topping it all off, Nike made waves with their BIGGEST ever Air unit earlier this month. Smashing expectations of Air, the release of the Air Max 720 let sneakerheads pump up their rotation with a visible, 360-degree Air bag; measuring a mega 38mm! In a range of nature-inspired colourways, these lifestyle trainers guarantee to turn heads.
