New Balance’s annual ‘Grey Day’ has returned, and this year they’re taking it up a level with not one, not two but three fresh colourways to celebrate.
Not heard of Grey Day before?! We’ve got you.
The Boston-born running brand started the unofficial holiday back in 2018, creating Grey Day to showcase the colour that’s synonymous with their sneakers, adding this classic shade to styles old and new.
Landing as part of New Balance’s Moon Daze Pack, the latest release sees new editions of the 550, the 9060 and the More Trail, with all three landing in men’s sizes and the 9060 available for women.
Want to know more on the drop? We’re takin’ an in-depth look at these designs below.
550
Aged sneakers are hot RN in the footwear industry, and with these 550s, New Balance has joined the party. 🎊
As opposed to cracked leather panels and yellowing soles, they’ve taken a different approach, switching the upper to a Pre-Worn White, Grey and Blue design.
Debuting in ’89 on basketball courts before being stored back in the archives, the 550 is a firm street favourite in 2023. Showing they’ve been put through their paces, the weathered leather and suede fabric brings a whole new meaning to old-school style.
Paired with breathable mesh around the ankle and tongue for airflow on the go, the heavy-duty design sits above a stitched midsole and retro rubber outsole.
9060
Keepin’ things cool for the warmer weather, the retro meets futuristic 9060 comes in an Arctic Grey and Steel colourway, as subtle shades of blue make a big difference across the breathable mesh base and suede overlays.
Sourcing elements from previous designs, the 9060 elevates the 99X models with visible tech aesthetics of the Y2K era. They’re sat above a familiar dual-density midsole that combines ABZORB and SBS cushioning for a platform-like ride, while the diamond outsole pattern nods back to the classic 860.
With a tongue logo taken from the original 991 lace jewel, they’re finished with motion-inspired ‘N’ branding at the sidewalls.
Fresh Foam X More Trail v3
As the athleisure scene grows and outdoor inspo’ with it, the latest More Trail design combines rugged detailing and exaggerated cushioning that takes cues from OG ultramarathons designs.
Coming in a Slate Grey and Concrete colourway, they have a debris-resistant mesh and synthetic upper, paired with extra padding at the tongue and heel for an ultra-plush fit.
Underneath this, the Fresh Foam More midsole delivers the most Fresh Foam in a trail shoe to date, stacked above a rubber Vibram outsole for unrivalled grip from pavements to peaks.
To sign them off, the oversized N logos hit the sidewalls for heritage feels.
